Indonesia's fifth president Megawati Soekarnoputri responded to President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) statement which mentioned the presence of sontoloyo politicians. The PDIP Chairperson assessed that politics was used as an unhealthy battle arena.
"Politics is actually a benefit for the people. If there is a difference, we don't have to scold and so on," Megawati said when asked by reporters after attending an honorary doctoral ceremony from Padang State University for Malaysian figure, Dato 'Seri Anwar Ibrahim Monday.
Previously, President Jokowi alluded to the presence of sontoloyo politicians, who often used unhealthy ways to win the people's sympathy, including criticizing government programs aimed at people's welfare.
According to Megawati, in a country, there is governance so there is a place to debate ideas and ideas. "In the governance system, even though whatever the form, there must be a parliament. The Parliament if we are the DPR, that's where the people can debate, as well as the politicians," Megawati said.
The daughter of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Sukarno, emphasized that every political party had a faction as a representative in parliament to come up with ideas or submit criticism. However, the reality is that the difference is actually used as an unhealthy battle arena.
"In fact, we are one nation, one country, and those who will be affected in the future are actually the people, what will they play with the people," said Megawati.
Mega said that politicians should be able to maintain the brotherhood of one nation and the nation by managing differences positively.
